I must post this anonymously because of where I receive my information from but I feel it is my duty as a fellow cam model to warn my peers of this situation. I do not want to scare anyone but you need to be informed.
On Chaturbate there is a script (possibly several). For anyone who does not understand what a script is, it is basically a code that can be downloaded and installed onto your PC/browser that changes the way a site operates or what you can see. The people that make/use these scripts can see and do things they should not be able to.
Privates and Groups
Sometimes you will notice grey users in your private and group shows. When the script was first created these people were able to view your cam for free and also see you in away time. The time when you thought no one was looking. Since then, CB has made some very important updates that countered this malicious part of the script.
They have updated their site with something called a "secure token". From what I understand a secure token is a way of double checking their records. They will see a grey user in a private/group and check their payment system. The payment system either responds with a red or green light for that user. So now, even though their are grey users in your private shows they are unable to see unless there has been a major update in the script. Either way, it is important to report these events.
Users with the script can see your token balance when you enter private or group.
Users with the script can see group or private chat.
Users with the script can enter your room undetected. They will not appear on the user list. But this has no ill effects. If a user enters the room on a mobile device it will appear the same.
Users with the script can watch your cam even though they have been banned from the room. Still not a useful feature because you can log out and refresh to clear a ban.
Users with the script may enter and leave your room even if you are offline.
Users with some versions of the script cannot be banned or silenced from a room.
FUNCTIONS THAT NO LONGER EXIST
Users were able to PM and change text color without paying for support status. Not a major concern because white label sites allowed these privileges but still annoying.
Users were able to view groups, privates, and away from webcam times for free.
Users were able to read all token notes.
Users were able to see app information. Ever wonder how people got so lucky in token keno? They could see where the prizes were hidden. Ever wonder how all those people got the password to your show? They could see that too.
Users were able to clear bans in your room. Ever wonder how all those people you banned/silenced came back? Yep...script users.
I know many of you cuss out chaturbate support for not being attentive and you wonder why they add the features they do, but it is for your protection. They do not publicize this issue because they are trying really hard to take care of it without upsetting people it seems. Hopefully this will explain some of the changes they have made and why.
If you see users come into your room, and their account has been banned several times, and they, "do not know why", I predict it is mainly script related. I have seen friends banned for this and then denied having involvement or blamed it on something else. I assure you that a large portion of site regulars are involved in this activity.
You should not worry though. Chaturbate has shut down one version of the script and they fight every day to make it a safe place for you all. Although you cannot completely get rid of scripts, they are doing the best they can. I urge you all to take caution with the information you put onto the site. You never know who can see what.
I do believe all official documents held by cb are safe. The bank accounts and real names etc. It is only what you do on cam that might be tampered with. Be wary when sending Pms or tip notes.
