do you ask for custom vid payments up front?

I hope some veterans can help me out. I'm not new to camming or making vids but I am new to making customs.

Is it OK to ask the guy to pay the entire fee upfront before I make the vid? I'm using CMD or Niteflirt as my payment processors and neither have an escrow service. Still, he has little to no risk if he doesn't pay while I have every incentive to keep a good reputation. Do most buyers expect to pay upfront?
