It can be a very slow climb, I'm not sure what sort of equipment you are using and setup you have, but good lighting and an hd camera can make a big difference. Lots of guys will leave a room as quickly as they came in if the quality isn't good. Making sure your internet connection is good is important too. If at all possible, plug into your ethernet cable rather than using wifi and close any other programs you have running. If you live with roommates, perhaps you can ask them nicely not to do anything that would use a lot of bandwith while you are camming, ie: downloading, streaming, etc.
Also, when you start to get regulars, use social networking to let them know when you are going to be on. Twitter is a great tool, I also use vine, tumblr, and instagram. Try one at a time so you don't spread yourself too thin, I would reccomend starting with twitter. Maybe try to find some twitter promoters who specialize in t girls who might promote you. There are lots of cam promoters out there who will retweet your tweets for free.
