How do you charge for custom Videos?

mmm so I normally get custom video requests from clients.l do the video and then they pay after I've completed the video and thereafter I send to them.So yesterday I got a custom video request from other guy and I putted in a lot of effort and time in the video for him to tell me today when I have to send him the video that he dsn't have enough money to pay me.So tell me fellow models,So you charge a deposit upfront before doing a custom video?How do you go about protecting yourself from timewasters?

Hi, when I have a custom video request, I ask he send me all details about the video for say yes or no, then if I can do the video I send the links for payment, after payment I ask him for his mail, also I tell him that it will take some days, depends it can be 3 days to 1 week. When the video is made I send by mail telling him I hope he enjoy my video, some are very happy and come back for more, others not too much, but I made the work and made money. If someone ask me on skype I say the same that I said by mail, and of course I don't do long chats, but the most important is to know what I go to do in the video and take the money. I learn never make a video if I have not the money from the client, at the beginning when I started this job I did, when I asked for the payment he ask me for send the video first but I said no, then he say he don't want more the video.
