I'm not sure if there's already a topic about this, but I couldn't find one, so here we go!
I'm gonna apologize in advance for the really long post, as well.
Getting into the porn business, basically everyone knows that there are sites where people go to fap for free. xvideos, pornhub, redtube, xhamster, etc etc etc.
What you should also know is that there is the risk that people will record your camshows, or buy your content, and upload them for free to these sites.
A few weeks ago, I was emailing a customer that informed me that he'd been following me for a while, and had found me because he'd found a camshow of mine (that someone had recorded without my permission) on a free porn site. He couldn't remember which one, so I started digging.
I wound up finding one of my own videos that I sell on motherless.com. It's a video of myself and my friend, Marci, using a strap-on. It's one of my favorite videos, and one of my best-sellers, so I was absolutely furious that someone would have the audacity to upload it for free! What was worse, is that it had more than 6,000 hits. In comparison, that video doesn't even have 1,000 sales. So a TON of people got to view MY content, for free. I lost out on SO much money, because of some low-life scum bag that felt that he had the right to share my content with the world without my permission, and without my knowledge. What's even worse than that, is that this video had been up on motherless for a few MONTHS before it was finally brought to my attention.
I made the mistake of reading through the comments on that video, and they were awful. These free-fappers were calling me a whale, fat, disgusting, a pig, things like that. And I mean, yes, I was the bigger girl in the video. But I've dealt with eating disorders and extreme issues with my body my entire life. I had lost somewhere around 50 pounds at the time of the video, too, which only served to make me feel worse about myself.
Beyond that, I also found (thanks to the person that had uploaded my video, who had commented on this so it showed up in their feed) part of my camshow from the night before the filming of the strap-on video uploaded to motherless. A whole hour-long chunk of it! Guess how many views that had?
Nearly 50,000.
I was floored, obviously.
Despite my better thinking, I read through these comments, and it was more of the same. It was like an abusive relationship, my reading the comments on this- you want to know what people think of you, even though you know they're not going to have anything nice to say.
I was thrown into a panic attack, and it continued for the next two hours or so. I felt miserable, I felt like giving up, I felt worthless.
But eventually, I picked myself up, and realized that I needed to take action on this. I'd never had to file a DMCA before, but this clearly warranted such.
Luckily, most free-fap sites will have something like "DMCA info" at the bottom of the page, so you can provide links to the videos that you are in/are your intellectual content, and have them taken down. Legally, the sites are required to take the videos down, or you can seek further action.
So, what I'm trying to say, now that we've gotten my big personal experience out of the way!
I think it's important to regularly search for your own name in any free tube sites you know of. The most popular ones for uploading sex workers' content, that I know of, are xhamster and motherless.
If you happen upon one of your videos, DO NOT READ THE COMMENTS. People that go on those sites and fap for free are the scum of the internet. They say terrible, nasty things, because they're terrible people.
When/if you happen upon one of your videos, open a new tab and go to that site's homepage, and scroll all the way to the bottom. Find something that says something about "DMCA"- if there isn't anything that says that, find something that says "contact us", or anything similar. You can email them directly, and tell them that (link your videos) are your intellectual content, and you want them taking down, or you will seek legal action against the site.
Some options for prevention, are obviously, not underpricing your content. People aren't going to want to spend a LOT of money, just to reupload it to a free-fap site. People that charge $5-$10 for a full-length sex tape are going to be more susceptible than people that charge the $1/minute or more that they are actually worth.
Beyond that, WATERMARK EVERYTHING. Your videos, your pictures, your cam- you can watermark your cam by downloading manycam, by the way, and running it as you cam. Watermarking is SO important. My customer wouldn't have found me if I hadn't had watermarks on the video that was stolen from me.
We shouldn't have to deal with this, but unfortunately, there are shitty people in the world.
