MyFreeCams Is Making Its Models' Accounts Easy To Hack!

MyFreeCams.com, which describes itself as 'The #1 adult webcam community,' has terrible password security, for both its users and, more importantly, its models, Motherboard has learned.

The site actually undermines strong passwords created by its users, Motherboard has found.

If a password contains upper and lower case, as well as punctuation, it is bypassed by simply typing in the password in lowercase, while omitting any special characters.

For example, if a model's password is '!!!PASSword???', simply typing in 'password' would access the account.

This is especially concerning because cam girls may be at a heightened risk of stalking or harassment. Many of the girls on the site appear to use pseudonyms, perhaps to protect their identity. Having access to their account might reveal their real name or location.

I work on MFC and I just saw this story today -- it broke on the 4th. I was extremely concerned and logged on to change my password and found that MFC is no longer allowing special characters in model passwords at all. I thought other models would want to know. This is a really big deal. If someone hacked your account, they can get access not only to your bank information, but your real name, address, etc. There might be a mass hack to publicize the names and locations of hundreds or thousands of MFC models, it could theoretically be used for blackmail, but what I'm most concerned about is a creepy client cracking a model's account in order to stalk her or worse. The best thing you can do is change your password to something very long, think 4 words or more, all lower case is fine; that will make your password much harder to crack. However, if someone hacked MFC's servers, it probably wouldn't matter. The story talks about how MFC might be storing our passwords on their servers, the language is a little technical but I have a background in software development, specifically web development (working on online websites running software similar to MFC) and I agree that they're probably not storing our passwords securely, which would make it easy for a hacker who got into their systems to steal account information for a huge number of models all at once. I personally am really concerned about this and am seriously considering deleting my MFC account since I've been thinking about switching to Streamate anyway. (ETA: I deleted my MFC, I don't need this stress.)

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this post? But I wanted people to see it. Mods please move it if it shouldn't be here. Thanks.
