New with Roomates- Questions about Soundproofing

Hello everyone. I have a tendency to be long winded, so I'll try to be as 'to the point' as possible with this. I live in a house owned by my partner, and we have two roommates who are both men. Both are single and rarely go out. They're long time friends of my boyfriend as well.

My roommates can already hear us when me and my partner are having sex, much to their (slightly entertaining) discomfort. Since camming is something I'm wanting to put a minimum of 20 to 25 hours into weekly I want to try and dampen any noise I can to keep things copacetic within the house.

I have my own office-type room that is separate from the bedroom. The door is recessed into a cubby sort of thing, where there is about a 2' or 3' deep hall (the depth of the closet) before the room opens up.

Anyway...

My thinking is to alter and hang a thick comforter in the opening of the cubby from one of the ceiling studs, and setting a box fan in the cubby in front of the door to act as white noise. I'm hoping this will be louder in the hallway and be somewhat muffled from the blanket in my room.

I'm also likely going to play music while I perform, and will likely use a low voice and say either I live with my parents or am not alone and have to stay quiet.

I'll likely tell my roommates what's up, but haven't had a need to yet. I'll not raise much suspicion as I already work from home anyway.

Either way, does this seem like overkill? If any of you have worked around roommates, what did you do?

is too hard ... i hear next door voice ,make me uncomfortable Smiley :) ,I have 10cm walls and 10cm thick cotton insulation,One wall , If you put your ear against the wall, you will hear the sound.
The test is, open loud music, or movies, close the door to see if you will not hear

Good quality soundproof is very expensive. There are cheaper ways for you to muffle sounds ie an old blanket, but it wont completely block out sounds.

You also need to know the difference between soundproof and acoustic: soundproof blocks noises entering thru walls/window etc - acoustic material retains/contains sounds within a room, thats why they are so popularly used in churches/music studios.

My recommendation would be for you to be honest with them and tell them about your job. You dont have to specifically go into detail, but this suggestion beats soundproofing imo because you will still be a bit paranoid about being quiet when you know they are at home.

I had a similar issue when I first started camming but I was living with family. I eventually told them about my work and it was like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders.
