Printing in the UK

I'm not quite sure where to put this question, but anyway.

While I was living in Japan, I could go to 7/11 or similar convenience stores for all my printing needs, whether it was documents or photos (to a certain size), etc, as well as scanning if necessary. The thing I liked about it, was that I was in total control of my prints/scans from beginning to end, since I was doing it myself..
Since I arrived in the UK, I have been looking at various printing-options (Google), but am only directed to services that will do the printing for you and then send the documents/photos to you or let you pick them up.
I have to admit that I am perhaps a bit paranoid about things ending up in the wrong hands, so I really want to take care of those things myself from beginning to end, but I can't for the world find anywhere that will let me do so.
So, my question is; do anyone know of anywhere in the UK (London) where I could print my stuff myself or do I just simply have to go to Tesco and buy a printer and then cry the whole way home over the money I've spent (haha)?

Printers aren't that expensive. It's the ink that gets expensive if you're using a lot. Most new printers come with ink and you should be able to get one for 30 or under.

Alternatively, I know some stationary shops (WHSmiths, Ryman's etc) do printing, but I don't know if you actually get to do it yourself or if you watch them do it. Another possibility is your local library.

So, sorry! Not entirely sure. I'd just get yourself a printer if I were you.
