A busy room is more appealing than a dead room (so I FAKE like I'm busy & popular)
A smiling , or at least pleasant looking model is more appealing than a non-smiling model, blank stare, working on iPhone or singing to herself.

Fake chatting may be the hardest thing to learn to do. It takes practice, but if you've got nothin' going on in your room anyway, you can practice!
Pretend people are popping-in saying, Hi
Pretend to reply to compliments, "Thanks Jimmy, it's silk. If you like me in it, you should see me out of it *wink*)
Pretend to answer questions about stuff, clothing, props, toys you own (guys may be too shy, or have a difficult time typing on their phone keypad or whatever)
Pretend to talk to people about your expertise, or your favorite body-part to be kissed, or brag about your best features or favorite roleplay..... after all, it's a sales job so let'em know what you're selling! =)
When there ARE people in your free chat, ALWAYS ask them to favorite you! It counts toward your placement metric.
Make your room feel lively, even if it's all fake, look straight into the cam while chatting, as if you're talking straight to him, and you'll find guys gravitating to your room..... which should add $$$ to your bottom line.
