Protecting your privacy on social networking sites:

We get this all the time.'I don't want to use Twitter because my family and friends in my 'real' life use Twitter - I don't want them to find the account I use to promote myself on iFriends.'

We completely get your concerns, and we have some tips to help you keep your worlds separate.

Create an email address that is completely independent of your personal life. Do not email anyone (including your own personal account) from your professional email address. Many social networking sites will access your contacts list and will then link you as a 'friend of a friend' to your friends and family members.

Do not upload the same photos to your professional and personal accounts. There are tools provided by companies like Google that give someone the ability to search for an image that is linked to your personal Facebook account and possibly find it on your professional Twitter account. So, to avoid this potential issue, make sure your content for your professional marketing efforts is different from your personal photo galleries.

Don't follow or 'friend' any of the same people on your professional or personal account.

Following these three steps will protect your personal identity from your online fans and your professional persona from your family and friends. Hope this helps!

The internet world is getting a whole lot smaller and a whole lot smarter. As technology advances and more people get online, it's going to become harder and harder to hide anything.

This is one of the only industries that people think they can just come in and dip out like it's not a real profession, but rather a hobby, a fantasy, something to "try out" or something to get into as a "last resort for money" (because everybody knows sex sells, and porn star make all kinds of money *insert eye roll here*)

I'm not saying you have to have a huge dinner and announce to your full family that you're an online adult entertainer (although this is a very freeing thing to do), what I am saying is:

if you care more about what others will think...
If you care more about being "found out"...
If you care more about "will this show up in a background check?"...
If you care more about "am I not going to be able to get a 'real' job if I do this?"...
...can I wear a mask...can I hide my face...can I block half the world from seeing me....
If you can't say to someone (including family), "Yeah, I did it AND...so what?!"

....then you are getting in this business for the wrong reason and it's going to forever haunt you, please find something else to do.

I've heard doctors make a lot of money, but they don't just let anybody into medical school and working at a hospital, don't make you a doctor.
