I'm always really careful about giving away too much information that could fill in the blanks about where I live. I think it's important that we realize some of the small talk and little things we do make us vulnerable. So, I'm going to post a few things I try to avoid talking about or doing on cam.
Weather
I made the mistake once of mentioning how horrible it was storming outside. A quick Google search of the US weather let a guy know my exact location based on the storm I was describing. Such simple small talk that I didn't realize was too much information.
Pets
I am always careful to remove their tags when I am on cam. When they are playing or running around it's so easy for them to get right in front of the cam to say hello. I don't want people seeing the shape of their tag (because it's my state) or any other personal info. on their IDs.
Schedule
If someone is really planning on stalking you don't give away too much information about your daily schedule. Maybe you have a day job and you mention your hours. It makes it so easy for people to follow you or wait for you.
Be aware of your surroundings
Are you eating or drinking something from a local restaurant? Are there magnets on the fridge with local information? Do your pictures have license plate numbers in them? Phone numbers? Recognizable landmarks?
More Small Talk
It's really hard to work a room and not seem "real" if you are too cautious. But sometimes I think I get too wrapped up in the conversation and forget to keep little details secret. Talking about going to the lake or amusement park makes it easy to gauge location when you put it all together.
"She's an hour away from a large lake and amusement park.."
I'm sure I over think these things too much. You would probably have to be watching a girl every single day and second to put enough info together to guess her real name and location. Only someone with real stalker intentions would do that. We never hear about camgirls getting stalked and raped on the news or killed. At least I haven't, but we are so afraid. So maybe we are all a little paranoid, but the internet is freaky and I watch way too much lifetime.
Let me know what you think! Or some of the things you do to keep yourself safe?
