A couple of weeks ago I was informed about a woman that's a single parent and struggling to keep a roof over her head and food on the table for her and for her son. She had been camming out of a studio but it closed down. She can't even afford bus fare so she walks everywhere. She even continued to try keeping up her camming while her son was in school. I don't know how she did it without a studio to work from when she doesn't own a computer of her own.
She had just been released from the hospital after suffering from a heart attack and often faints. I spoke with her by phone that same week to see what I could do to help her. I didn't hear from her at all last week and just learned that she's in the hospital and doesn't know when she'll be getting out. The problem is she has just lost the motel room she had been living in and they want $296 just to let her go in and get her belongings. But it sounds like $296 is all she has. Maybe she's unable to think clearly since she's in the hospital and under so much stress. She was crying and said she doesn't know where to go when she is released from the hospital and that she's scared. I searched the internet and found a couple of shelters for women to put her in contact with and now she says she will not be able to do a shelter. Now she says she has money but just needs to get her things and she doesn't want to give them (the motel) her last dime when they're not even gonna allow her to stay once she pays them.
I don't know what to do to help her any further. She doesn't even want to find a new studio to work from in order to supplement her income. I think about what I'd do if I was in that situation. As much as I hate the idea of working from a studio, I would tolerate the studio until I've saved up enough money to go somewhere else. Fortunately her son can stay with her oldest for now.
As far as food goes, I searched the internet for food pantries through local churches that can help her but since they often give away food that's past the expiration date (finding insects in food you're about to cook is an appetite spoiler) I bought a bit of non perishable items for her and for her son fresh from the grocery store. I haven't been able to deliver the items yet because I wanted to add fruits and veggies as well.
