Whether you're a newbie or a seasoned pro to the camming industry, we all have learned, or are learning, how important marketing yourself through Social Media can be to your financial success.
Many models rely on gaining their traffic through big box sites like Streammate, Chatturbate, MFC and the all the others. Problem is that they take such a huge portion of our earnings. The hope is that the volume of traffic these sites produce results in more shows. Many of these sites vary on whether they allow you to advertise your social media in order to help build business to your room.
If you are an independent cam model or sex worker performing your shows through Skype, YM, Oovoo, and the like, then there are 3rd party sites like Cammodeldirectory, Skyprivate, and ModelCentro, where you can build a profile or "ads" and you may get a greater percentage of the earnings but the level of traffic the site takes in depends on the sites own traffic procurement and marketing strategies. It been proven that with sites like these it's still absolutely necessary to do your own promotion to bring clients in order to financially survive. And again these sites vary on whether they allow you to advertise your social media in order to help bring business to your site.
Whether you strictly work on a big box site, independent, or both, a cam model must market themselves in order to find any success in this business.
So what then?
You can spend the big bucks to hire a professional PR or Marketing firm to help build your brand, design, develop, and maintain a marketing strategy for you. But who's got that kind of money to spend? Are you ready to not only be completely "public" , but to have your face plastered all over the world about what you do? And how likely do you think a PR or Marketing firm is going to be about taking on a sex industry client? For most of us this is just completely out of the question or just downright a silly idea. Unless of course, your goal is to become a celebrity porn star then go for it. Just look at Jenny McCarthy!
So what's the FREE option?

Now don't get me wrong. The biggest misconception about social media is that it is free. It is not. While it may not cost you a dime to set up and get a profile or a listing made, if you don't know how to use it properly it is worthless! What social media marketing will cost you is TIME. And if you are a savvy business person you know that time is money. Time is our commodity....time is what we sell! With social media marketing it takes time to set up, time to produce the content that will get seen, time to learn what works and what doesn't, time to schedule, and then time to manage it.
But then...
With hundreds of possibilities out there to market yourself... which ones to choose? Which ones will work specifically for me, and which will be a complete waste of my time? How much time and effort will it take to learn how to use the platform effectively and get real results? Will I be able to maintain my privacy to some degree? What types of marketing should I do these platforms (announcements, sell content, post reviews, write articles/blog posts, selfies, all of the above)? What are the rules about the types of content I can post on each platform since many are not "adult" friendly or only mildly so? And then....how in the heck do I make myself stand out in an overwhelming sea of information that's moving a million miles per hour, only to be lost and never seen again? There are so many questions and so little time. Especially these days when you have to spend all of your time trying to hustle every dime you can. You sacrifice spending the time needed to market yourself, to being on cam to make that money.
I know how it feels. I have been a full time cam model for almost 4 years now and went through all those issues and asked all those questions. I learned through trial and error, I read a lot of articles, I goggled a lot of "how to's", and watched a lot of videos in my very little spare time.
