Declaring your income - taxes?

Not exactly the most exciting of topics, but I'm new to camming after being 'normally' employed my entire life (my normally I mean, with a boss paying a regular wage) and while I haven't yet made enough for this to be a pressing topic, how do you guys go about organising your income for taxes?? Do you declare it? Do you have a registered business number under your performer name? Do you take copies of your cheques/income receipts to declare, as if self employed? And if so, how much in tax do you normally pay?

I'm Australian and the tax-free threshold here is $18k. Again, I'm not at all worried about it at this point, but I did some vague calculations and if I continue going, if I committed to doing this full time, my annual income would be that several times over and not exactly 'ignorable' by federal tax law.

Before I pay a tax agent for advice - how do you do it?? I can see that this is something I could easily 'slip under the table', but I'm not sure if that's the best idea.

Taxes are very different in different countries. You're first port of call should be to look up your government website to read about taxes and what you need to do. Alternatively you can hire an accountant to do it for you, if only for the first year until you know what you are doing. According to many girls, an accountant will discover loopholes and extra expenses which means you are in a sense getting him for free.
I'm in the UK and last year was my first year doing my tax. It was pretty simple.
In the meantime, whatever you end up doing, keep records of everything, every work related receipt, every payment received.
